Explore People - Family Tree
With over 130 staff here in the UK, and in the region of 100 to
150 tour leaders out on the road at any one time, there's an
enormous pool of skills and personalities to draw from - an
expertise and wanderlust that have put Explore at the cutting edge
of adventure travel and that keep the whole operation ticking along
smoothly.
Our Family Tree consists of (in alphabetical order):
- Aviation - spanning Airline Liaison
(who negotiate and source the seat allocation from the airlines,
before passing it on to...), Flight Systems (who
administer the allocation internally, including any flight schedule
changes) and Ticketing and dispatch (who do what it says
on the can).
- Customer Sales & Support - the
largest team numerically, it includes the Sales Consultants on the
other end of the phone, and admin consultants who are specialised
by area, plus a Flights desk dealing with special flight requests
or late bookings, which would require sourcing seats.
- Customer Relations - who deal with
customer correspondence and work closely with the Operations team
to ensure all feedback is acted upon and overall quality of the
tours continually improved.
- Finance - whose bean-counters keep our
house in transparent order - from budgets to supplier invoices to
personal expenses; they also look after the tour leaders out on the
road.
- IT - who keep all our IT systems well
oiled and up-to-date, and send out rescue patrols when machines
malfunction - from PCs to reservation systems, to Apple Macs
- Marketing - who produce anything from
brochures to branded moleskine diaries and magazines to PR
opportunities, as well as administering the customer database, our
award-winning website and sales agents worldwide. Marketing also

'My work as a Tour Leader with Explore
fits in perfectly with my love of people and travel. Previously, I
worked with teenagers running educational and cultural tours in
Europe; studied German, Spanish and French at university; and ran
confidence building workshops for the long-term unemployed. (I was
also a singer and dancer once, but I promise not to inflict that
hideous fate on my Explore groups!) My travels have taken me to all
the corners of the globe and brought me face to face with many
weird and wonderful creatures - by far the most fascinating of
which were the Komodo (for ugliness) and the Ugandan Mountain
Gorilla (for beauty).'

'Having spent 5 years in the
Reservations department and 7 in Flights, I have seen a few changes
in the company. Flights had 3 people in it when I joined there are
now 15 of us! I've also enjoyed some great trips with Explore - I
think it's a company that fits in with my values, i.e. see the
world but don't destroy it along the way. My latest trip was the
Alpine Explorer in France, where my husband, son and I all threw
ourselves off the side of a mountain for a spot of parapente -
amazing. When not working I am busy being a mum, and in what time
is left over I work as a Reiki Practitioner (having recently
become a Reiki Master/Teacher) and a Reflexologist.'
