An Excerpt From A Journey To The Land Of Oz
By Rodney Harris
We now check in in Sydney. We find we're "on the rocks".
But it proves to be ideal …full of Aussie history….down by old
Sydney docks.
Opposite the Opera House: on the sweep of Circular Quay….
Just down Argyle Street, from the Sydney Observat'ry
But the Sydney Harbour Bridge towers over all this lot with
ease.
A still colossal structure made back in England on the Tees.
Yet for us it has another meaning: we're booked to do the great
bridge climb.
We go half way up but lightening threatens. So we're pulled back to
try another time.
The next morning's bright and clear and we get in early as they're
opening.
We book in for 8.15. Jason is leader and…yes! We're going!
Experts now in the procedures…donning all the safety gear
Off we go up to the summit. Why do we do it? Because it's
here!
On the way we're told the history…how only 16 people died
In erecting this massive structure…we hang on and keep
onside!
Finally, happily then we make it. It's all been thoroughly
worthwhile.
From the summit gaze around us. Then pose for photos….this
way…smile!

We really like the people who
send in their stories and poems. Their views are always worth
listening to. Sometimes they might differ from that of Explore, but
that's okay because the world is an interesting place and we like
to discover and talk about it, even if we don't agree. Just so you
know.
