Professor Multanovskiy

Professor Multanonvskiy in the Antarctic
The Professor Multanovskiy was built in Finland in 1983 as an ice-strengthened vessel and served as an oceanographic research ship for the Russian government. Recent refurbishment has brought the vessel right up-to-date with safety and passenger comfort at the forefront of the improvements. In January 2009 the ship starts its charter under the management of an experienced team of dedicated staff in Canada called One Ocean Expeditions. The Professor Multanovskiy now meets the highest safety standards of modern passenger vessels.

Why choose the Professor Multanovskiy?

The ship meets the up to date SOLAS (Safety of Life At Sea) standards.

One Ocean Expeditions are leaders in the field of sustainable tourism management.

Sea Kayaking

Kayaking in the Antarctic - Damoy by Aaron Lawton Sea kayaking is a spectacular way to experience Antarctica.

Paddle peacefully in some of the continent's more remote, sheltered bays and get remarkably close to the amazing wildlife.

A qualified kayaking guide will accompany all the kayak excursions and One Ocean Expeditions uses only the best quality equipment.

Kayaks, paddles, spray skirts, dry suits, personal flotation devices, pogies and booties, as well as water tight deck bags to protect cameras are all provided.

The kayaks are launched from a zodiac, then for safety reasons the zodiac shadows the kayaks throughout the excursion.

Previous paddling experience is preferable including wet exits, basic strokes and some bracing experience.

Places are limited to 10 paddlers per voyage so it must be pre-booked.

Polar Camping

Camping on Antarctica at Sunset - Professor Multanovskiy Camping ashore on the Antarctic ice is an unforgettable experience and one offered to every passenger on board a One Ocean Expeditions' Antarctic Peninsula voyage.

The camping is included in the price of your tour, although it is an optional activity and there is no need to book in advance.

Passengers can make their decision to camp or to stay on board ship once they have been to the briefing given by the expedition team.

The activity is ice and weather dependent; the final decision to go ahead is made by the captain and the expedition leader.

One Ocean Expeditions provides good quality camping equipment including sleeping bags, tents, bivvy bags and a portable onshore loo. In the morning, everyone and everything returns to the ship; nothing at all is left on Antarctica.

Safety & Comfort

Lemaire Channel, Antarctica on board the Professor Multanovskiy

The company chartering the ship, One Ocean Expeditions, was created with a 'safety first' attitude. That is why they have gone to the greatest lengths to ensure maximum onboard safety and comfort for all passengers.

The vessel is equipped with all the top safety systems and operates according to the latest safety procedures. In addition, the vessel meets the up to date SOLAS (Safety of Life At Sea) standards as well as carrying a highly trained crew.

The ship has maximum maneuverability. With two diesel engines, our vessel has the power to explore the farthest reaches of the Polar regions. With a bow thruster at our disposal, we have the maneuverability to get in and out of the most interesting places, safely.

Part of the ongoing refurbishment of this vessel included the addition of substantial new facilities including a lounge and presentation room which have created more comfortable passenger areas. Today the Professor Multanovskiy re-emerges as a modern and well-appointed expedition cruise vessel.

Green Voyaging

Chinstrap Penguin, Antarctica

One Ocean Expeditions are pioneers in the area of environmental responsibility. They have built their reputations as leaders in the field of sustainable tourism management. That is why the operation of the ship will meet and exceed the latest marine environmental protocols.

They burn cleaner fuels and treat our waste in the greenest way possible. They have also implemented an industry leading responsible purchasing system. They take great care to ensure the products they buy are not derived from endangered species nor does the use of which contribute to loss of sustainability in the region from which they came. They also try to use 'green' products wherever possible.

We are confident that their overall practices concerning environmental responsibility and sustainability are unrivalled in the expedition cruise industry.
