Our tour leaders are carefully selected and have undergone thorough training in the UK and/or overseas. They are chosen for their:

• travel experience
• people skills
• experience in working with groups and especially children

Our tour leader training is widely acknowledged to be the best and most intensive in the business, making a role as an Explore tour leader coveted indeed. Our tour leaders are an interesting crowd:

• Chris Bradley is a former British international racing cyclist and a renowned expert on Libyan antiquity
• Several are professional photographers
• Some so love the countries they lead in that they have moved there permanently - like Chris Siviter in Belize, who now also trains local tour leaders
• We even have one who has an OBE!

Please note that tour leaders are not child-minders and should not be expected by parents to take sole responsibility for children at any time during the tour. Parents and guardians booking on Explore family tours agree to take responsibility for the children booked with them for the duration.

Children need to be accompanied by at least one parent or guardian on included and optional activities. A few family tours are accompanied by local representatives only. Where this is the case, it is outlined clearly in the individual 'Factfile' and tour dossier.

We have long-standing relationships with many local agents, the small operators in each country who run some of our trips for us and who often supply local tour leaders. For instance:

• Bashir & Nadeem in India with whom we have worked for many years after founder Derek Moore met them whilst travelling in the 1970s
• Doug Pridham in South America helped us set up one of the first tours there 17 years ago
• Whilst Condor Travel in Peru has been something of a constant fixture in the Explore firmament
