Tour route of Azores Islands

The unspoiled archipelago of the Azores lies in the mid Atlantic and is bathed by the temperate currents of the Gulf Stream. We'll visit 3 islands of varying character, exploring the volcanic landscape and geothermic features by public transport, charter bus and on foot for a varied and fascinating field trip.

Sao Miguel is blessed with a rich diversity of attractions of particular interest to geographers and geologists. Volcanic activity has created spectacular crater lakes, bubbling mud pools and hot springs. On Pico Island we learn about the islands' whaling history and we hope to spot sperm whales on a whale watching excursion.

The ascent of the Pico volcano (2350m) is a great finale to the trip!

Best time to visit: May to October
