Fitness & ability

All Explore tours require some level of active participation - whether a cultural tour, trek, safari, expedition or voyage. It is in the interest of all group members that everyone should be capable of fully participating in the activities of their chosen tour.

With this in mind, please be aware that our booking conditions state that if it is felt that any client is not sufficiently fit, healthy or able to complete a tour without affecting its safety, comfort or happy progress, the Tour Leader at any stage has the right to remove them from the tour.

To ensure that this is never necessary, please make sure that you have fully understood the level of fitness and ability required to complete a tour before you book it.

Each individual tour dossier has full details about the specific tour.

It's your responsibility to let us know if you have any concerns related to this subject. Our Sales team will be happy to discuss this with you.

Seeing as we are on the subject of health, a quick reminder that if you, others you are travelling with or anyone else upon whom travel depends have a pre-existing medical condition, you must inform your travel insurance company of this.

You should also ensure you receive confirmation in writing that the condition is covered. Failure to do so may result in any associated claims being refused - and may also mean that we are unable to accept you on tour!

You will need to think about vaccinations and immunisations.

When tours visit remote areas or developing countries, we normally recommend immunisation against Typhoid, Tetanus, Polio and Hepatitis A.

Certain countries may require a certificate of vaccination in order to enter - parts of East Africa and South America for example, ask for a Yellow Fever certificate.

Malarial prophylaxis should be taken in many parts if the world - and the advice on which ones to take is constantly changing!

Although we list 'Vaccinations & Protection' recommendations in each individual tour dossier, we really do recommend that you contact your GP or a travel clinic for the latest advice. After all Explore is not a medical body - and the experts should have access to more accurate and up to date information than us.

You may find the following links useful for general health advice:

www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/ - for info on immunisations and Malaria

www.masta-travel-health.com - includes details of private clinics across the UK

You might also like to know that Nomad Travel stores have Travel clinics, and as an Explore customer you can get 10% off any products or services.

Please be aware that many inoculations need to be taken a minimum of 7 days prior to travel, and some have to be taken in multiple doses up to 7 weeks prior to - so please leave yourself plenty of time!

A reminder also that malaria tablets need to be taken before you go to an affected area (and for a length of time after you return home) - though timescales vary from one type to another.
