The place that Iâ€™ve completely fallen in love with is Mantanani Island in Borneo. I volunteered in Borneo for two months and spent two weeks on Mantanani Island where I taught in its school, helped with some eco-projects and learned to dive. When I arrived at the island by boat I completely taken aback, it was like stepping into a scene from a postcard. Thereâ€™s only a small community that live on the island; there are no roads, only sand and trees; and only a handful of divers visit it a week â€“ itâ€™s just like paradise.
Next on my list has to be New Zealand. I went there a few years ago but it was only for a week - everyone said I was mad for travelling all that way for seven days but I couldnâ€™t turn the opportunity down. It ended up being the best decision Iâ€™ve ever made! New Zealand completely blew me away and Iâ€™d really like to go back to see more of it, especially the South Island â€“ I only got to spend one night there last time. Iâ€™ll defiantly allow for a longer trip next time!
If you asked me for my best piece of travel advice Iâ€™d say â€˜pack as lightly as you canâ€™. Although itâ€™s hard to even follow my own advice, thereâ€™s nothing worse than lugging around a heavy bag thatâ€™s full of things you wonâ€™t actually use. I sometimes over pack because I worry that I wonâ€™t be able to get hold of things abroad, such as toiletries. But itâ€™s never the case. Youâ€™ll always end up coming across a shop that sells what you need, and if they donâ€™t sell it â€“ it probably means that you could easily get by without it.
