Experience the great gamelands of Africa on an Explore safari holiday.

Explore has over 25 years experience in offering safaris to Africa’s great gamelands and we certainly know how to deliver the ultimate wildlife experience.

  • We always use professionally qualified safari guides - expert spotters who make sure you see and learn all about the incredible diversity of wildlife.
  • We always include the major reserves, but we also take you to lesser-known areas whose own unique ecosystems and landscapes are equally as enthralling as the big name parks.
  • We take great care in making sure our itineraries are well-balanced with plenty of time in the parks to maximise game-viewing and where possible we offer a variety of experiences from traditional game drives, to night game drives, boat safaris and even game walks with armed rangers.
  • All our tours are fully staffed as appropriate for your style of safari, from camp staff and cooks to boatmen, guides and drivers.
  • And of course, all our tours are accompanied by an experienced Explore tour leader to make sure your safari runs as smooth as possible.

Choose your accommodation style:

From classic camping to luxury lodges, we offer a range of ways to enjoy your safari. Accommodation styles can very from night to night while on safari, but you can check what standard of accommodation you can expect by looking at the 'Accommodation Breakdown' in the fact box of the 'Trip details' page of each tour.

Safari Accommodation falls broadly into two types - Camping & Lodges.

ea-campingCamping

Lying awake at night listening to the sounds, near and distant, of the hunters and the hunted must be one of the world’s greatest travel experiences. Campsites are often in the heart of the reserves with no barriers between you and nature.  Camping may be participation (put up your own tents), or assisited (tents are put up for you).  A cook will provide an incredible range of cuisine and your Explore tour leader will make sure everything runs smoothly. Conditions can be basic but this is an incredibly rewarding way to travel.
Consider our East Africa Explorer, our Botswana Wildlife Safari or Selous Safari & Zanzibar if this sounds like your style!

sl-lodgeLodge-based

For extra comfort, consider one of our lodge-based itineraries. We carefully select our properties for comfort and character, ranging from traditional lodges to fixed tented camps and more off-beat offerings such as traditional beehive huts in Swaziland. Accommodation is frequently right in the heart of the parks and reserves to make sure you’re right where you need to be each morning to get game-viewing. Travel and game-viewing is usually in four-wheel drives with time each evening to relax and enjoy your surroundings from the comfort of the bar or lodge verandah!
Consider our Serengeti Lodge Safari or Namib Lodge Safari if you prefer a bit of extra comfort.

As well as choice of accommodation, Explore Tailormade can also create you an itinerary visiting particular parks, extra time in a nature reserve to spend more time observing a particular animal species or a private safari excursion with just you, your guide and the wildlife. We can also help you find the best way to get from place-to-place, from scenic road journeys for those with more time to fly-in safaris for those who want a touch of luxury.
