Atlantic Rowing Race: Blog 12

Blog 12 - Annie Hmm. 22nd of December and I’m writing this blog from my desk in Bristol… I can’t say I saw that coming at all! I’m sure you all know that race start has been delayed until 29th December due to the ferocious hurricanes currently ravaging the Southern Atlantic? I guess we’re better off on dry land but it’s frustrating as hell regardless. I flew home a couple of days after Mel as there was really no point me sticking it out in La Gomera. I  landed at Bristol airport at 6.30pm. It was raining hard and I felt slightly silly (and bloody freezing) in my shorts and flip flops! However a very good friend of mine came to my rescue and took me out for an evening of flaming Sambucas which soon warmed me up! I’ve seen my parents and picked up my dog, Zebedee, who was ridiculously happy to see me it was untrue! For the past few days I’ve just been mooching around in Bristol, catching up with friends and doing some Christmas shopping (thought I’d got out of that this year!) I’ll be spending Christmas with my Mum & Dad and brothers, Chris & Andy, which I’m really looking forward to. Mel & I will fly back to La Gomera on Boxing Day… assuming that Gatwick is open for business as usual. If this snowy stuff continues and we have problems getting flights, then I guess race start might be delayed even further as pretty much everyone will be in the same situation as us. Mel’s doing OK and is definitely flying back with me on Boxing Day which is fantastic news. We’re a little worried that we’ll miss the ferry from Tenerife to La Gomera which will mean we’ll have to spent the night entertaining ourselves in Tenerife… Oh well, I guess worse things have happened at sea…. (We’ll just have to find the nearest Red Lion pub and get on with some much needed crew bonding!) Happy Christmas everyone and thanks for your support. I know Mel is particularly appreciative of your messages and thoughts and would want me to say a big thank you on her behalf. Annie x We will be tracking Annie and Mel's progress and posting more of their blogs here. Keep up to date and find out why we are supporting therm here
