Cycling Holidays in France on one of our small group cycling holidays offer the opportunity to savour the astonishing beauty, unbelievable food and unforgettable experiences the French countryside can offer.
When it comes to cycling, few countries have such a special relationship with two wheels as France. Each year, the legendary Tour de France attracts enthusiasts and causal observers alike. But for all the skill, excitement and endurance of Le Tour, going at that speed there isn’t a great deal of time to take in the spectacular surroundings.
Peter Mayle’s best-seller A Year In Provence and the subsequent TV adaptation first opened our eyes to this stunning region in the early 90s. Of course, spending a year exploring would be great but perhaps not practical for most of us. Still, with an 8-day tour you could find out how one French region inspired Van Gogh, and continues to produce some of the world's finest wines.
Known as ‘The Garden of France’, the Loire Valley offers relaxed and picturesque cycling. Taking in quiet country roads as well as medieval castles and cave villages. This is the France of your imagination brought to life.
In the very south of France you’ll find the Basque country. A region that straddles the French-Spanish border (as does one of our cycling adventures). Cycle through the distinct Basque countryside, stopping off at the beautifully preserved old town of Saint Jean Pied de Port. Then sample the famous cuisine available in Bayonne and Biarritz. Sticking on the border, explore the Pyrenees and Mediterranean coast of both countries as you cycle through foothills from Barcelona to Canet.
As well as wine and champagne, France is also famous for its cognac. We've a gently-paced tour that follows the Charente River and, of course, allows for a stop at the famous Cognac vineyards.
And for those who prefer something more challenging, the Provencal plains and Luberon hills to the top of Mont Ventoux is a mouth-watering prospect. It’s a tough climb, but when you have the backdrop of ancient vineyards and picture-postcard hilltop villages it’s also lots of fun.
So why not try one of these cycling adventures and make your very own Tour de France? Explore the wide range of options below for cycling tours in France and let your adventure begin!
