Indian Sub-Continent

Adventure holidays in the Indian sub-continent

For truly life-changing experiences!

In these spiritual heartlands you can join the throngs in South India’s ornate Hindu temples or take a trip to remote mountain monasteries in Buddhist Bhutan. In Dharamsala you may be lucky to attend the teachings of the exiled Dalai Lama, in Amritsar encounter Sikh pilgrims at the sublime Golden Temple.

If you’d rather be wildlife spotting, you won’t be disappointed! Take a safari with us in search of Bengal tiger in North India, ride elephants to spot one-horned rhino at Chitwan in Nepal, view wild elephants in Sri Lanka and don’t forget the marine life of the Maldives for some world class snorkelling!

From the lofty heights of the Nepalese Himalaya, Ganges Delta of Bangladesh, lush valleys of Bhutan and Sri Lankan jungle - for incredible scenery you need look no further. Join us on a Himalayan trek or camel safari through Rajasthan’s Thar Desert. Cultural treasures also abound –the fabled Taj Mahal at Agra, exotic forts and palaces of Rajasthan, Sri Lanka’s ancient cities and the temples of the Kathmandu Valley.

Tour durations are from 7 to 23 days with everything from cultural journeys to full blown Himalayan treks, cycle tours and relaxing island hopping. As well as our grown-up tours we also offer family adventures in India and Sri Lanka.

Free welcome meal in India

We’ve been working with the same trusted ground operators in India, Sea & Sky Travel, ever since Explore founder Derek Moore met Sheikh Bashir in a carpet shop in Kashmir in 1982. They’ve been instrumental in helping us expand our India programme from just 2 tours (one in Rajasthan and one in the South) to 22 exciting and diverse itineraries from rail tours to cycle trips, treks to family tours. Although very much Kashmiris at heart, Bashir and his extended family now live in Delhi for most of the year, where in celebration of our longstanding relationship they’d like to welcome into their home all passengers travelling on our Moghul Highlights tours this autumn for a special welcome dinner. This promises to be a unique chance to taste some home cooking and perhaps learn a secret recipe or two!
