I've had so many great holidays but if I had to choose one that sticks out it would be when I travelled in Eastern Turkey about 20 years ago with my wife-to-be. We got around by ferry, hitch-hiking and ramshackle public buses, and were the only tourists at most of the places we visited - it felt like another world.
I used to lead tours for Explore in Turkey. I fell in love with everything about the country: the undiscovered Greco-Roman sites, the Ottoman architecture, the mountains, the coast, the food – and especially the people, who are so friendly, hospitable and generous. Western Turkey is starting to change now, but the east is still as magical as ever.
Now we have three children and have had some fantastic holidays as a family. The best so far has to be Egypt, where we enjoyed an action-packed week in the Nile Valley followed by time on the coast and in the Sinai Desert. Next I’d love to take my family to some of my other favourite places - Nepal, Uganda, Botswana...it's a long list!)
