If I had to pick just one, my best holiday would be the Zululand and Kruger Wildlife tour to South Africa and Swaziland. The beauty of this holiday was that you could leave Heathrow and then suddenly find yourself in the absolute wilderness of the Drakensburg Mountains. The mountains offer some stunning scenery and walks for different abilities. A highlight of the tour was game viewing in Kruger and Mlilwane National Park. Kruger is great for viewing the bigger game from the safety of your vehicle and Mlilwane is great for getting up close – there are no lions or big cats so you can do guided walks, cycling or horse riding amongst the animals.
My dream travelling companion is Michael Palin - he is inspirational, adventurous and hilariously funny. He has travelled around the world, helped millions of people to get an insight for different cultures and really gets involved with local people. He doesn’t stay in 5* all inclusive hotels and he will use whatever method of transport he can.
My best piece of travel advice? Be expected for the unexpected. My favourite experiences have been the unplanned ones when I’ve had no expectations. This is what makes a holiday personal to me.
