Explore Goes Green

On Thursday 23rd August 2012 we held our very own Explore Goes Green Day. Aiming to demonstrate how easy it is to become more environmentally friendly, Explore staff, agents, tour leaders and customers made small changes to their daily routine to become as green as possible.

It wasn’t just staff and customers based in the UK who took part, the Explore family from all around the world made an extra effort in the name of Go Green Day. Here are just a few examples of what we’ve been up to across the planet:

•    India - Our Tour Leader Atul Godha planted two trees outside his daughters’ school in Udaipur, Rajasthan, while teaching the school children about the importance of looking after our eco-system. Atul hopes that future generations will take care of the trees and remember to always care for our planet
•    The Azores - Our Tour Leader Erwin Verhagen went litter picking with his group
•    China - Our local agent turned off their air conditioning in their head office for a day, despite the heat
•    Morocco - Our local agents travelled to work by public bus and provided equipment and mule support for a litter pick at Toubkal Base Camp. Our Tour Leaders also spoke to their groups about Explore Goes Green Day and discussed ways in which they could make their day even more environmentally friendly
•    Sri Lanka – Our Tour Leader Prisanth De Mel took his group litter picking and then turned off all the lights in the evening, enjoying a candle lit dinner with the whole group

Back in our head office, many of the Explore team left their cars at home for the day and got to work by ‘any other means’ – by bus, train, bike or on foot. Even those who had a long way to travel car shared and waked the last couple of miles into the office. In a bid to go one step further, many staff pledged to do something extra special for the day including donating unwanted clothes to charity, picking up litter on the way to work, doing a litter pick in the Explore car park, using environmentally friendly nappies and baby wipes, and undertaking an office clear out - recycling all unwanted items. A huge well done to one member of staff who even did a litter pick at Reading Festival along with her family – very brave!

A big well done to all involved. If you have any ‘go green’ stories of your own, we’d love to hear them. Email us at marketing@explore.co.uk, or alternatively, contact us on our Facebook page or tweet us @Explore_Chat
