What we are doing
We first worked with Hope in the immediate aftermath of the tsunami and purchased 5 fishing boats, complete with nets, to enable a South Indian community to get back to work.
Since establishing this 'Centre of Hope' in the village of Pudupattinam post tsunami, projects have blossomed, thanks to the work of Santosh and Nalini Kagoo - Hope's project staff - who live within the community itself.
The community now enjoys a health centre, vocational training, sanitation, a community centre and in November 2007 the new school building was finally completed; all down to the sheer hard work of the local Hope team and your support. Since 2005 we have been sponsoring a teacher and recently purchased a new library for the school.
What you can do
If you are travelling on our South Indian Images (Ref DS) tour you may also have the opportunity to visit the school. Financial donations online are always the most significant way to help, but gifts of exercise books and pens are always welcome. If you are travelling to north India, you can still help Hope by supporting the Asharan Orphanage in Delhi who welcome any donations of children’s clothes, books or toys.
