Responsible Travel (RT) is no idealistic statement or cliché at Explore. We have established strong policies, strong systems which are fully integrated into our daily business. Our staff understand their role in regard to RT and have the tools, ability and authority to implement, monitor and manage RT systems so the company achieves its objectives.
Want an idea? Well, take a look at our RT policy here and you’ll see we’re quite busy…
Explore RT Policy 2010
We audit every single one of our tours for its RT (responsible tourism) credentials. All aspects of tours are considered, from the use of fuel to transport options, treatment of animals and our positive impacts on the local economy. This way we know where we are and what we need to do. We know we are not perfect but we are working hard to improve performance and RT will always be a core value at Explore.
It’s not just what goes on overseas that counts. It’s no good trying to save the world on our tours if we are not applying the same principles to our UK operation. So we look at every aspect of our business, from quirky details like installing waterless urinals in our head office, to major decisions to offset all our flight emissions. Our dedicated RT Forum work hard to ensure we are working to best practice. We know we’re not perfect but we’re pretty damned good…
At Explore we believe we just ‘get on with it’ – no gimmicks, no grand gestures, no clichés. The company was pioneering RT before this was even talked about, and this get-on-with-it spirit remains central to what we do – at grass roots level – and we enjoy it. We leave the trumpeting to our adopted toddler: Serendip the Asian elephant.
