About the Shirley Meacock Award

Shirley Meacock

Our Tour Leader Awards are now in their third year and this year we have introduced a brand new award.

About the award

The Shirley Meacock Spirit of Explore Award recognises an Explore Tour Leader who, over years of leading tours for Explore, consistently receives amazing feedback from both customers and Explore staff and who really embodies the ethos of the company - just like Shirley herself.

About Shirley

Shirley was our most travelled customer when she sadly passed away in 2009. She first travelled with Explore when she was 63 and, after 57 adventures in 22 years, including the Inca Trail when she was 64 and Kilimanjaro when she was 73, it is clear Shirley truly embodies the pioneering spirit of Explore.

To recognise the way Shirley touched the lives of the people who knew and travelled with her, we have named this brand new award after her. The nominees for the inaugural Shirley Meacock Spirit of Explore Award are below.
