Bangkok is a "very special" destination for people planning solo holidays to south-east Asia, as the Thai capital combines many different elements to create a heady mix of a city.
That is according to world-famous chef Ken Hom who - although having Chinese heritage - has adopted Thailand as his new homeland.
"I love the culture, the people and, of course, the weather. The combination of all those things makes it very special," he said.
"It's Asia, but calm, mellow Asia - not frantic Asia, like Hong Kong. I love the way people smile all the time [which is] a result of their Buddhist heritage. "
Furthermore, the chef - who has written more than 20 cookbooks in a long career - praised the city's restaurant scene for its varied nature and even said that his favourite place to grab lunch is the Italian eatery Gianni Ristorante.
People travelling to Bangkok should explore the city's famous rivers in a traditional long-tail boat.
