China's food 'among the world's finest'

Travel writer says the chefs in China have the world's best palettes

A travel writer has praised the food of China as one of the "world's finest", saying it is a good reason to visit the Asian country on a solo holiday.

The Lonely Planet author, writing on the travel guide producer's website, said that people taking part in solo holidays are really missing out if they do not put a lot of focus on food.

"Food and travel go together [and] no matter where you go you’ll have little trouble finding at least one culinary experience that will help you understand the local culture," the writer said.

"China has one of the world's finest palates. Cultural precepts of Yin and Yang (balance and harmony) are evident in the bowl."

The writer added that a range of regional dishes are available all over the country and - as is the case in many countries - the difference between north and south, or east and west, can be very interesting.
