Tunisia is an ideal destination for travellers planning solo holidays, with the climate and culture lending itself to exploration - and if people travel in April, they can visit the historic region of Carthage and take in a festival of sound.

Jazz in Carthage is a range of concerts which - in 2012 - is held between 8th and 17th April. A wide variety of musical legends will be performing, such as Marianne Faithful and Nigel Kennedy.

International listings website What's on When noted that the festival of sound will mix many different forms of the musical style together.

"Jazz in Carthage is a ten-day festival offering an eclectic international programme of artists. Sufi, jazz, electronic and other music blends are performed at the Hotel Barcelo Carthage Thalasso, exploring new avenues of musical fusion," it said.

Historically, Carthage was the home of a classical empire, located on the northern coast of Tunisia. Now, the town is located in the suburbs of Tunis and is home to around 20,000 people.
