City combines delicious food and good weather with stunning architecture, says travel writer

Britons planning to embark on adventure holidays in Spain should visit Barcelona as it combines the best aspects of the Mediterranean, it has been claimed.

Local travel expert Sally Davies claimed that the Catalan city has so much to offer tourists of all ages and interests.

She told the Telegraph: "Barcelona combines everything that is most charming about Mediterranean cities - a relaxed pace, months of endless sunshine, unbeatable food - with the cultural and design clout of most any city in the cold north."

Ms Davies added that fans of gothic architecture will not be disappointed as Barcelona is home to famous Gaudi buildings which now stand next to more modern structures in the city skyline.

It is also home to seven stunning beaches, as well as a number of Michelin-starred restaurants and traditional family-run tapas bars.

UK travellers planning to take a trip to Barcelona could also visit the nearby city of Girona and the Pyrenees mountain range.
