The city is perfect for people planning cultural holidays
People planning to take a solo holiday to South America might want to visit Rio de Janeiro, as it's a place with a 'zest for life' and has a strong cultural side to it.
Marco Lomanto, who is the products and destinations director at the tourism board for Brazil - called Embratur - said that the city is perfect for travellers looking for a bit of excitement.
"Rio de Janeiro is a destination for the kind of traveller who has a zest for life. In one trip a tourist can see the rainforest and the beaches as well as enjoying Michelin starred-food and celebrations," he said.
"Ever since its foundation, the city has been one of the main cultural centres of the country, with its countless cinemas, theatres, museums, parks, churches, concert halls, show venues, art galleries and libraries."
Some of the great artistic sights in Rio de Janeiro include the Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of International Naive Art.
