Do some pre-holiday research for a 'different experience of the country'

'Do some research' before travelling and after arriving

People planning to take a holiday - especially if it is a solo holiday - should always "do some research" before going and after they have arrived, by quizzing the locals, according to someone who has done more travelling than most.

Former international rugby star Lawrence Dallaglio has travelled all around the world both for his sport and for pleasure. He told the Daily Telegraph his top tip for people planning to take a trip.

"Do some research about where you're going and when you arrive talk to the locals and ask them where they eat," he said.

"It's easy to take the safe option and stick to the obvious places, but if you ask around it will save you a lot of money and you will have a different experience of the country."

This way, you will be able to get a more authentic view of the destination, hopefully out of the way of the tourist traps.
