People looking to explore culturally significant buildings on solo holidays in Europe should visit Prague Castle, as it is a "stirring" sight.
That is according to a writer for the website for guidebook publishing firm Lonely Planet, who was full of praise for the castle, known as Prazsky Hrad in the Czech Republic.
The first thing the writer suggests about this famously magnificent building is that it must be seen as much more than a castle.
"Calling Prazsky Hrad a castle is a masterful understatement - it's really a compact walled city, with cathedral, palaces, streets and houses. A succession of ambitious rulers enhanced the original ninth-century fortifications, somehow blending complementary Romanesque, Gothic, baroque and Renaissance delights," the writer noted.
"But in truth there's one better place to be than in the castle - that's outside it, looking up."
The view of Prague Castle from outside is truly astonishing, the Lonely Planet author suggests, noting that looking up to the castle as the sun is setting is one of the best views that the Czech capital has to offer.
