Nearly half of travellers take part in activities without checking their cover
When it comes to selecting a travel insurance policy for a planned adventure holiday, people must check they have sufficient cover and not focus too much on the price, Essential Travel has said.
Stuart Bensusan, who is co-founder and head of sales for the travel essentials provider, said that the key to any insurance policy is ensuring that you are covered where you need to be.
"Cheap is good but not essential, it's the cover you need to check," he said.
"You have to make sure that you have sufficient cover, but not just medical, baggage and cancellation, also sports cover, [you also have to ensure] the level of excess is not too high."
Mr Bensusan added that other things people should check when taking out travel insurance is how many claims it is possible to make. Also, travellers should ensure their policy has a "reputable underwriter".
According to research recently released by the firm, 40 per cent of holiday makes partake in a water sport without checking if their insurance covers it.
