Magazine editor says people need to care about green travel

People planning to take solo holidays should ensure they travel sustainably, as it benefits everyone, according to Wanderlust.

Dan Linstead, editor of the magazine, noted that people have many reasons to travel sustainably, including simply wanting to visit places again.

He said: "Who wants to be denied the possibility of walking in a rainforest, snorkelling a coral reef, or tramping up a wild mountain side - just because those who have been before have trashed the place?

"Labels like 'responsible' and 'green' travel can seem rather worthy, but everyone should care about the sustainability of travel destinations for purely selfish reasons too."

According to a poll from HolidayExtras.com, when asked how environmentally-friendly they are on holiday, only 55 per cent of holidaymakers claimed to be eco-conscious.

Mr Linstead added that green travel is simply a case of "being a good guest" and thinking how your trip will affect your surroundings.
