Dubrovnik is a top cultural destination, according to tourism board

The Adriatic coastal city of Dubrovnik is a "living museum" for people planning to take a solo holiday in or around Croatia, according to the promotional organisation for the country.

On its website, the Croatian National Tourist Board put forward the opinion that the ancient city - known as the 'Pearl of the Adriatic' - is perfect for holidaymakers looking for a cultured time.

"The over-a-thousand-year-old history of Dubrovnik is visible in every part of this city, [which is] a living museum and a live stage, and has an ideal connection between its historical past and the modern day," the organisation noted.

"Dubrovnik is mainly a cultural destination, which aside from monuments of interest, offers a series of cultural events and festivals."

The 'Old City' of Dubrovnik became a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1979 and is protected by the international body as a place of unique cultural importance.
