Bangkok, Florence, New York, Istanbul all popular destinations
Destinations that are "remote" and have elements of "authenticity and adventure" to them are becoming increasingly popular, according to a survey conducted by holiday magazine Travel and Leisure.
Nancy Novogrod, the editor in chief of the travel publication, said that adventure holidays to "exotic" destinations look likely to be among the most popular trips to take in the coming year.
"It's clear that remote and exotic destinations - places that convey a sense of authenticity and adventure - are ruling the day once again in Travel and Leisure's World's Best Awards," she said.
"The top cities overall span the globe - Bangkok, Florence, New York, Istanbul, Siem Reap and Sydney, to mention a few."
The top ten lists of best cities and destinations - Travel and Leisure's first - were compiled by asking readers of the magazine a questionnaire. This questionnaire was split into nine categories, from which a final score is aggregated.
