Great Pyramid of Giza is 'iconic' place to visit on adventure holidays
Groups of people looking for destinations to visit on family adventure holidays should consider going to Egypt to see the awe-inspiring Great Pyramid of Giza.
That is according to Lonely Planet, the travel guidebook publishers, who placed the Egyptian site on its list of the world's top ten "most iconic human-made structures", alongside attractions such as Cambodia's Angkor Wat and Machu Picchu, in Peru.
"Around two million stone blocks, each weighing two tonnes, were brought together to serve as [Egyptian pharaoh Khufu's] tomb," the organisation noted on its website.
"The Great Pyramid is the planet's original tourist attraction - counting Antony (Cleopatra's beau) and Napoleon among its many early visitors - and keeps company with three other pyramids and that other illustrious attraction, the Sphinx."
As well as the pyramids and the Sphinx, some other attractions that people on an ancient Egypt-themed adventure holiday should visit are the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens, located in Luxor.
