Cape Town is 'Africa's greatest city'

Cape Town is the "best city" on the continent of Africa, according to holiday publication Travel and Leisure, which has recently revealed its list of top cities, hotels and islands in the world.

The second-largest city in South Africa is ideal for people planning to take solo holidays in the nation, as it has a dazzling array of natural sights and other attractions, according to a writer for the magazine.

"Cape Town is the most European of African cities: a true melting pot, moulded by Dutch and English imperialism … and deeply infused by indigenous Khoisan and Xhosa culture," the travel publication noted.

"Here, you're likely to hear the muezzin's wailing call to prayer from a Bo-Kaap mosque as well as a time-keeping noon cannon blast, a daily custom since 1806."

One of the greatest attractions in Cape Town is the famous Table Mountain, a flat-topped mountain often covered in a thin layer of clouds, known as the 'table cloth' of the mountain.
