Taking year-long adventure holidays in South America before university will help to broaden young adults' horizons, whatever their grades.
That is according to the Independent, which suggested that gap year travel is an enriching experience for people of all ages and academic abilities.
It explained that traditional gap-year destinations are changing, with more people looking to embark on exotic adventure holidays to destinations such as Peru in South America and Tanzania in Africa.
Such locales have the advantage of not only offering something away from the norm, but are also much more affordable as well, which can play a big role for those students who know they will be greeted by larger-than-ever university fees next year.
"But taking a break from the normal routine isn't just for school leavers," the newspaper noted.
"Redundancy, divorce, becoming a parent - there are all sorts of reasons why mature travellers are taking career breaks and setting off to see the world."
