Travellers on adventure holidays in Kyoto will encounter stunning landmarks, it has been claimed.
Kyoto is the sixth-largest city in Japan and is home to around 1,600 Buddhist temples, 400 shrines and 17 World Heritage sites, as well as a number of striking gardens.
Travel writer Oliver Bennett advised travellers to pay a visit to the stunning Sanjusangen-do temple.
He wrote on the Daily Express' travel website tripideas.co.uk: "Now, I've seen some sights but I was truly taken aback by this collection of 1,000 life-size Buddha figures, arranged on a series of steps, as awesome as China's Terracotta Warriors."
In addition to the temple, Mr Bennett identified the Golden Pavilion palace, which is spread out over three floors and features a picturesque pond, as one of Kyoto's best landmarks.
However, the collection of temple buildings called the Silver Pavilion is "possibly finer", according to Mr Bennett, as it includes raked-gravel Zen gardens and numerous statues of gods.
