Bridgestone Museum of Modern Art named one of the best in the world

Travellers planning a solo holiday to Japan may wish to visit one of the best modern art galleries in the world.

According to a recommendation in the Readers' Tips section of the Guardian newspaper, Bridgestone Museum of Modern Art is a "small but impressive" establishment based in the capital.

"This is one of Tokyo's best private art museums and was founded by Mr Ishibashi … the president of Bridgestone Tires," the reader - known by the username Cristobalosborne - wrote.

The reader says the museum "houses a small but impressive collection of French impressionist art" which includes works by Edouard Manet, Edgar Degas and Claude Monet.

If travelling through the south-east Asian country, the reader says: "There is also the delightful, if expensive, Georgette tearoom."

Japan's capital also houses Tokyo National Museum, the oldest and largest art museum in the county. It has a large focus on ancient Japanese art and Asian art, along with a comprehensive collection of Greco-Buddhist art.
