People wishing to go on solo holidays in India should visit a prominent Sikh temple in the capital city, according to a travel writer.
The Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, in New Delhi, is "a retreat for Sikhs, Hindus and tourists", Victoria Stewart wrote in the London Evening Standard.
Golden domes top the temple, which has a pond inside its grounds that people of the Sikh faith believe is holy.
But, according to the writer, the most brilliant secret of the tourist hotspot is that the Gurdwara has a "vast" canteen.
"We [Ms Stewart and her mother] found ourselves in a vast kitchen where food for 15,000 is prepared daily by guru sikhs and volunteers," she wrote.
"The canteen is easily missed on the tourist trail and is a wonderful contrast to the bustling Khan market and Old Delhi."
Ms Stewart travelled from New Delhi to Udaipur in the Rajasthan region, which is known as the city of lakes.
