Madagascar 'constantly changes from African to Asian'
E-mail Print

African island has many Asian influences

Madagascar is a good choice for people wanting to take solo holidays because it has so much to offer, according to a journalist.

In the Independent newspaper, Kate Eshelby put forward the opinion that the island "constantly changes its appearance from African to Asian".

The writer recommends visiting the vibrant and sweet-smelling marketplaces and take in the "gleaming" vistas of the country.

Ms Eshelby reserves great praise for the country's capital of Antananarivo, saying the city is "unlike any other African city".

"Ripened green rice-paddies lap at the ring of hills around the city. Church spires sprout from the hilltops and bright Creole houses peep down," she says of the region.

One of the country's most popular sites is the island-wide range from wildlife, it is home to half of the world's species of chameleon and due to its isolated nature has many breeds which are native.

From tonight (February 9th) David Attenborough will be narrating a new television show based on the African island's wildlife for the BBC, called simply Madagascar.
