People looking for hiking holidays this summer may wish to visit Croatia, which has an extensive and "spectacular" coastline.
According to the national tourist board, Croatia's 1244 islands offer so many "secluded bays and inlets" that it is possible for tourists to walk until they are alone on the coast of the European country.
Meri Matesic, director of the Croatian National Tourist Office, said that the country is great for anybody who enjoys sailing as part of an adventure holiday.
"[There is] an existing sound infrastructure for sailing, the ideal climate and a reputation for its clear waters," she said. "It is a real experience to sail from the north to the south of Croatia to ... experience the contrasts in scenery."
Ms Matesic added that other noticeable differences between the north and the south of the country include the "excellent local wine, cuisine and cultural highlights".
The cultural highlights for which Croatia is known include the old city of Dubrovnik and the cathedral of St. James in Sibenik, both of which are UNESCO-designated World Heritage sites.
