Fuji Rock is one of the world's top music festivals

Travellers hoping to take solo holidays to south-east Asia should stop off in Japan, especially if they plan to add a music element to their trip.

According to website Japan Zone, the country has some of the best music festivals in the world, including Fuji Rock and the Earth Celebration, held in July and August respectively.

In 2009, Fuji Rock included performances by Oasis, Franz Ferdinand, Fall Out Boy, Jimmy Eat World and the Kiyoshiro Imawano Special Message Orchestra.

Mark McBennett, president of the website dedicated to all facets of Japanese life, says that part of the draw of music festivals is being near to nature, in the same way as adventure holidays.

"Fuji Rock is … held in [a] beautiful ski resort [and] it has a lot of the back-to-nature feel of a good outdoor festival," he said.

While in Japan for the music festival, travellers could stay in the town of Hakone and visit Mount Fuji and Lake Ashi for fantastic views.
