Travel association recommends Alaska, Colorado and the Rockies
People looking for ideas on where to take adventure holidays should consider visiting the National Parks of Alaska, Colorado, and the Rocky Mountain regions, the US Travel Association has said.
These areas of the United States also make a great destination for travellers planning hiking holidays.
Stella Clery-Ackland, spokeswoman from the US Travel Association, said that these regions offered "stunning scenery, small towns, big cities and are diverse and unspoiled".
She added that visitors on hiking holidays should "visit the great outdoors and get in touch with nature. They will meet real people and interact with the culture and essence of the American experience."
Visitors to Alaska may wish to trek across the Kenai Peninsula, which juts out of the south of the American state, into the Gulf of Alaska. It offers a relatively mild climate for walking.
According to demand statistics for international scheduled air traffic, published by the International Air Transport Association, North American carriers recorded year-on-year increases in passenger demand of 7.4 per cent in 2010.
