Rajasthan is one of the most "magical" places in the world, according to a travel writer, making it a good destination for people planning adventure holidays.
Lisa Grainger, writing in Ultravel, The Daily Telegraph's holiday supplement, was describing her journey to the region for a leading traditional music festival: the Rajasthan International Folk Festival (RIFF).
The writer put forward her opinion that there is "no other place as magical as [Rajasthan]" in the world, due to the experiences the area offers, reserving particular praise for the city of Jodhpur.
"It has deserts to explore, ancient forts and opulent palaces to ogle and scatterings of exotic hotels in which to stay," she said.
"Even better, for those who yearn for out-of-the-ordinary experiences to colour their ordinary Western lives, it still has living, ruling maharajahs, decedents of ancient dynasties which have passed down rich cultural legacies."
Last year, the area of Rajasthan attracted the fourth-highest number of foreign visitors, compared to India's other regions.
