Family package holidays to Delhi benefit from guided tours

Travel writer praises region's 'beauty and truth'

People planning family package holidays in the Indian subcontinent may wish to visit the Indian region of Delhi, as it is a place of "startling beauty and troubling truth".

That is according to Fiona Duncan, writing in The Sunday Telegraph, who praised the area for its fascinating past and the remnants of huge testaments to history.

"In a city built and destroyed seven times and filled with a multitude of historic ruins, I visit the great monuments," she said.

Ms Duncan heavily recommended that people on family package holidays take a guided tour of the area to make it more manageable.

"With the help of private guides, that can be achieved and sprawling, confusing, impenetrable Delhi becomes instead a many-layered, unforgettable collage of colour and sound, startling beauty and troubling truth," she said.

The same feature on the Indian region recommends that people taking a trip there read the novel City of Dijnns by William Dalrymple.
