Holidays to the national park are fantastic for walking
People planning to take hiking holidays in America should visit the Grand Canyon, according to the national feature's former artist-in-residence.
Pamela Petro was booked as the Grand Canyon's artist-in-residence for three weeks over January and February, which she called "an ideal time" to visit the national park.
Writing in The Daily Telegraph, the artist noted that the hiking in the area was pure "magnificence".
"I hiked … into the canyon to a spot called Cedar Ridge, on the South Kaibab route, accompanied by an off-duty ranger named Kristi," she said.
"It took about three hours - Kristi said to count on twice as long to go up as down - and took my breath away in every manner of the phrase."
Ms Petro is primarily known for being a photographer and writer. She works by taking photographs and imprinting them onto rocks or other natural materials, such as leaves or driftwood.
