Mallorca's airport is the Brits' busiest, according to new surveys
The number of travellers booking hiking holidays on the Spanish island of Mallorca may rise as more people are flying to the main airport, according to a survey.
Comparison website Car Hire Market conducted a poll, the results of which revealed that Spain was the most popular destination for British travellers over the last two months, with Mallorca's main airport being the most used.
Anel Bruns, who is product manager at the car hire company, said that the increase in people flying to the island, which is off the east coast of Spain, could be down to Britain's cold winter.
"As the Met Office warned late last year that December was almost certainly the coldest since records began, many Brits took to the skies and flew off to sunnier climes," he said.
People may consider taking a holiday in Morocco as well, since the African country is considerably warmer than the United Kingdom this time of year.
