'Clear merits' of guided tours in US and Canada
Guided activity trips are the perfect fit for people who want to take adventure holidays in the United States or Canada, mainly due to the sheer size of the region.
Fred Mawer, who was writing about the best cultural and activity holidays in North America, said the "vastness" of the continent means having someone else in charge of the schedule has a relaxing effect.
However, Mr Mawer also said that people must take care to choose the right itinerary for their own personal adventure holiday, as otherwise they might miss something.
"The vastness of the US and Canada means there are clear merits in having someone else do the driving and map reading – or letting the train take the strain – while you lap up the views," he said.
"Analyse itineraries carefully: some highlights tours can be rushed and therefore unsatisfying and unrelaxing and the quality of accommodation and board arrangements varies significantly between companies."
