Adventure holidays to south-east Asia may be on the up
People planning adventure holidays to south-east Asia should take advantage of cheap flights currently available, as they make it easy to travel from country to country, according to Lonely Planet.
Heather Carswell, a spokeswoman for the company behind the travel guides, noted: "Thailand is a perennial favourite and this shows no sign of changing, however other countries in the region are seeing their fair share of visitors too."
Many of the top attractions in such south-east Asian countries such as Cambodia and Laos "reported significant increases in the number of visitors" last year, the spokeswoman said.
She added that: "An increasing number of visitors are flying to the major cities such as Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur and jumping on a cheap flight, for example to Siem Reap in Cambodia to see Angkor Wat or Vientiane to explore Laos."
Earlier this year, the Pacific Asia Travel Association has predicted that the fastest growing sub-region in Asia will be the south-east of the continent. Interest in this region is set to grow by around eight per cent over the next couple of years.
