Hiking holidays in Andalucia offer many North African elements

Andalucian hiking holidays offer travellers a 'North African-style' holiday

People planning hiking holidays may wish to visit the southern Spanish region of Andalucia, as it offers two types of holidays in one.

That is according to Hazel Plush, a journalist writing in the Metro, who says that the North African influences in this area of Spain give the area a little bit extra.

According to Ms Plush, the southern area of the Iberian country still contains many relics of the Moorish era. The writer suggests some ways to make a Spanish holiday a little less European.

"Take tea North African-style: tuck yourself into [an] open-air teterias (Middle East-style cafes) for impossibly sweet mint tea," she writers.

"Then get communally clean: no Moorish city would have been complete without a hammam (public bathhouse)."

Moorish hiking holidays that visit the area of southern Spain often take in some fantastic natural sights as well, such as the Alhambra Palace at Granada, which Ms Plush calls "the jewel of Andalucia’s Arabian past."
