Each Greek island 'has its own identity'

Deputy culture and tourism minister recommends taking a trip around the islands

Travellers looking for solo holidays in Greece should visit the islands surrounding the Mediterranean country, as each one has its own identity.

That is according to George Nikitiades, deputy minister of culture and tourism in the country, who particularly recommended the island of Crete as it has "anything that people may be interested in".

"If you go to [the right destinations], you have the opportunity to visit in less than an hour two or three islands around. There are many islands, and the same happens in the Ionian," he said.

"That's one of the beauties of Greece. You go to the islands and each one has its own identity, its own different things to show."

Visit Greece, the country's tourism board, is currently displaying an information stand in Westfield Shopping Centre in London.

Crete is the largest and most populous of Greece's islands and is the fifth-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea.
