Celebrity chef says the cuisine is easy to create at home
People travelling to Greece on solo holidays should embrace local dishes, a celebrity chef from the country has suggested.
Christoforos Peskias, a top chef speaking on behalf of Greek Tourism Organisation, noted that food plays an important part of the Greek culture.
Mr Peskias recommended that people travel to country's islands, which he said have the "best and most unique cuisine" in Greece. He also recommended the island of Crete for their cooking with fresh herbs.
He noted that Greek cuisine is all about the quality of the ingredients used and not the quantity, suggesting that it was easy for people to recreate Greek dishes at home.
"For Greek cuisine you need olive oil, dried oregano, in the summer you need tomatoes. We don't use a lot of ingredients, it's the quality of the product that is important – that's not just with Greek, but all of the Mediterranean [cuisine]," he said.
Crete is the largest of all the Greek Islands and one of the most popular for travellers from all over the world.
