St Lucia is a great destination for those planning adventure holidays, especially for people who would enjoy swimming at Sugar Beach.
Molly McDaniel, press relations director for The Jalousie Plantation, said that it is in the evening, when places surrounding the body of water offer night-snorkelling, that St Lucia really comes into its own as an ideal adventure holiday destination.
"Once the sun goes down the coral reef and rock crevices really come to life. The crystal Caribbean waters glitter with phosphorescence and marine creatures normally dormant during the day," she said.
"Not only can you witness brightly coloured parrot fish weaving their cocoons, and octopus venturing from their daylight hideaways beneath the surface, but a glance above the waves reveals twinkling fireflies dancing in the foliage."
St Lucia was named after Saint Lucy of Syracuse by the first settlers, who were French. Saint Lucy is the patron saint of writers, which is fitting, as preeminent poet and recent winner of the Nobel Prize Derek Walcott hails from the small island.
