Kerala's backwaters are great for travellers on adventure holidays

Kerala's backwaters are well-known around the world

A writer has suggested that the backwaters of Kerala is one of the top destinations for adventure holidays in the world, due to the method of travelling.

Lori Rackl, writing in the Chicago Sun-Times, suggested that people looking for adventure holidays could use the luxury boats that move through Kerala's rivers as a means of locomotion.

Ms Rackl said that the rivers in the south-west Indian region reminded her of another leading holiday destination well known for its water.

"A labyrinth of lagoons, lakes and canals make Kerala's backwaters feel a bit like Venice - with palm trees and paddy fields. And just like Venice, the best way to appreciate the landscape is from the water," she wrote.

"Those who make the trek south to Kerala's backwaters are rewarded with something that's not always easy to come by in the second most populous nation in the world: tranquillity and relaxation."
