It appears that people planning adventure holidays to Hong Kong are not alone in their desire to discover the country's sights and attractions, after it was revealed that travel spend in the state is at an all-time high.
The Hong Kong Tourism Board announced on April 3rd that the Total Tourism Expenditure Associated to Inbound Tourism (TEAIT) in 2010 smashed through the 200 billion Hong Kong dollar mark for the first time.
Overall, the TEAIT reached 209.98 billion Hong Kong dollars (£16.2 billion), which is a rise of 32.7 per cent on 2009.
One of the unique elements that draw tourists to the south-east Asian city is that a bustling metropolis is so close to beautiful natural sights such as the Li River and the limestone formations in southern China.
James Tien, chairman of the tourism board, outlined how the tourism spend jumped so rapidly.
"The increase in arrivals, along with the strengthening of most currencies against the Hong Kong dollar, which stimulated visitors' spending, led to remarkable growth in the total tourism expenditure," he said.
Hong Kong was reunified with China on July 1st 1997 after a handover process by the United Kingdom.
